Why must it be removed? Its a bit like a trademark. It designates the word or phrase as Registered and others are restricted from using the word to prevent others from confusing others into thinking it is same product.

If so, these indicate that the preceding word has been registered with the National Trademark Office, which began during the Trademark Act of 1946.
