I. Don't think so. I bought one for an IPad Air 2 and mine is an IPad Air. I had to take it back and get the IPad Air unit.

i got rid of my ipad 1, but it says it fits both, the corners that hold the ipad in place are rubber and have give, so i would expect it to fit just as securely as my ipad 2
