It fits but the sleep/wake function does not seem to work with the new iPad (2017). Perhaps the magnetic sensors are placed differently in the new model? Does anyone else have this?

Yes it does. I have the new 9.7-inch iPad w/ A9 chip (April 2017) and this keyboard works flawlessly with it. Also, it seems that the hold-down clips are very, very slightly deeper on this model KB than another Logitech model that features the new "smart" connection that is supposed to work with iPad Pro models, that's why I chose this one and it works great.
