You don't have to plug the speakers into the sub, if that's what you're asking. Then you could in theory just plug the sub into your receiver.

No, I don't think so. The two speakers connect to the supwoofer and use a ac jack to transmit sound. Honestly, the speakers/supwoofer sounds amazing and for the price it's a steal. Give it a try You will not be disappointed.
