“How small does this collapse to for storage? I'm looking for a tripod to take on hikes so want something that is nice and light and can be folded pretty small to fit into a backpack Thanks!”

It won't fit into completely into a standard backpack. I have a camera bag and on the outside is a strap for tying my tripod. On a standard backpack, you could place it on the top of the bag (near the back of your neck) and tie it in place (use rope or twine or something).
