“An old audio saying goes: "There is no replacement for displacement" with that in mind, I don't see how it is possible to get any low frequency from 2 little 5 inch bass speakers. Does the overall sound lack bass that needs to be reinforced by subs?”

While it is the smallest floor-standing model in the new Motion line, it offers impressive levels of detail, clarity, and dynamics. There is a lot that goes into how they can produce so much for their size. From the bottom-mounted single cannon bass port, floor bounce compensation, F.A.S.T. outrigger feet, the cabinet, the specific tuning of the bass drivers, and placement of the drivers and port. All of it contributes to what the speaker can do and how it can provide so much range for its size. This is still the smallest model in our line up and we do have higher-up models that have more range if someone is looking for them.
