They're veneer but look surprisingly good.

Thank you for your question and we hope all is well. We don't build the cabinets themselves out of natural wood since each kind of wood has different properties so different finishes would result in a different sound. Building the cabinet out of MDF or HDF gives you a strong and consistent skeleton that you can then apply a natural wood veneer or vinyl over. In the case of Foundation, we use vinyl. Its heavy like walnut but looks like a shiny veneer. So not really sure, but they are nice.
