The subscriptions are designed to be yearly and then renewed. Thus I am pretty sure that the above is not an option. If you purchase the 5 and don't use it that is your option. You are still paying for it. I have the 5 and I am using 4 of the 5 currently. You can put it on your laptop, desktop, and mobile devices. This subscription from my review provides you with the 5 devices for the year whether you use it or not. No bartering of extending the yearly subscription by not using 1 or more of the

You don't have to use it on all of the allowable devices, but you are set at just one year. I had purchased a personal subscription by mistake and needed several licenses. So, I purchased a home subscription soon after and activated it. I am still limited to the home's device allowances, but i now have two years instead of one. The licenses actually allow 5 pc's /macs, 5 tablets and five smartphones. If you want more than one year, you'll have to buy more than one subscription.
