Yes to some extent. But its worth the money for the updates. I'm not tech savvy and have gone without the subscription before and ended up needing some of the editing options that came with the updates.

Go with shareware, find a safe version that will do word and forget the price gouging Microsoft wants to stiff you with. This program is a waste of money if all you need is word.

not sure? contact microsoft support on this question. if you dont pay the $69 annual renewal fee, then all office services you use will void out.

Yes you can. It will be annoying every time you open it because it'll ask for an access key, but you can just exit out of that screen and use word without a problem!
