It does "pleat," but you have to break it in...older versions used to pleat more easily out of the box, but it appears the materials used are more rigid, which is probably a good thing (I suspect this version is more durable than the versions a few years ago). After a couple of weeks, I found the board more easily switched between being flat or raised.
