It last for as long as the machine functions. The Full Retail Version can be moved to a new machine is some cases. I have never heard of the Microsoft Windows OS having a term limit. MS Office apps do that though.

A product is good for one computer. This means as long as you have your computer without upgrading the motherboard and CPU, your license will be valid. Your license will never expire, and you will never, EVER, get a pop up stating that your license will expire soon. If you get that pop up, close it (do not click on any buttons) and run Anti Virus software and/or Malware/Spyware software.
