The number will be available once you activate the sim, It is not written in the sim card. You also have the option to port-in to maintain your present number but you must know the account and pin # of your present line and it must be active as well during the port in process.

Either you select a new number based on the desired area code or you transfer your existing number. Once you make your decision during activation, you can not change it.

Whatever # you wind up with be sure to get your account #, PIN, and exactly how they list your name/address WHEN YOU SIGN UP. They'll make it impossible to get that info later, to make it extra hard for you to switch to a different service.

When you activate the SIM card, you can request a new number. If you choose to get a new number, enter you zip code, select 'Get a new number' and it wil generate a new phone number based on availability for your area.

You could transfer an existing number or create a new number with the carrier.
