“So I purchased this thinking it was a regular charging case like the one they make for the iPhone 5/6 . You simply charge it and then then it on and it's being charged . Do I need the charging pad in order to use Thisbe case? They weren't specific at all”

No it has a port at the bottom. You can charge the phone and case simultaneously with a cable

You charge it while it's installed in the phone with a micro USB cable. It will charge the unit and your phone. You only charge the unit on when your phone battery gets low. No pad is needed.

The charging pad is optional. You can use the cord it comes with, but don't have to purchase the pad.

I simply plug it in, it extends the time needed to charge.
