• I haven't seen much (if any) loss of power when it hasn't been in use. I've used it to charge my iPhone 4s and it worked great. Haven't used it on a 5, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

• It will last just like any other battery. It was actually designed for Apple products. It is just like plugging into any USB.
