“What keeps a laptop from slipping off. Also I see some risers with holes in them so I guess the laptop can breathe. Does this provide that in any way?”

It has grips on the arms that are a rubber, silicone texture. It doesn't need the holes because it is two arms that hold the computer up and nothing more, so there isn't a lot of surface area blocked by the stand so the computer keeps cool perfectly. It is very minimalist in the design so it anything that the generic flat stands need.
