It makes ice periodically as it melts. I always have ice available as long as there is water in the machine.

Thank you for contacting Newair. Once the ice making cycle is complete the machine turns off and will manually need to be turned back on. Over time the ice will melt, since the ice maker does not have a freezing compartment to keep the ice cool after it is made and is recommended to store them separately. Best Regards, Customer Care

Question 1. It stays frozen until the basquet get full.
 
Question 2. Yes it keeps making ice or until you stop it from making ice then ice last like 1 hr before it melts.
