• The D3300 is an excellent choice for a beginning DSLR that will give you great action shots and close-up food shots. You have to be aware - as your skill progresses - you might want to get a dedicated close-up lens - like the AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G lens available at Best Buy. That will get you amazing close ups as it is a dedicated lens for close up (can be used for portraits as well) photography. You will get - even better - clarify and true to life reproduction than the enclosed kit lenses.

• Yes. The 55-200mm lens is perfect for closeup shots.
