Can I use my old Nikon film type telephoto lens null

The D5300 does not have a built-in focus motor. It relies on lenses that have a built-in motor. Nikon denotes these type of lens with an AF-S designator. It incorporates Nikon's Silent Wave Focusing Motor. Older film-type lenses do not have this. While the lens would attach to the camera, you would have operate the lens manually in all aspects.
