Right now I have the kit lens. Which I’ve only used once since I bought it I bought a 35mm yongnuo prime lens but I also bought the Nikon 1.8g 50mm lens and I gota say the 1.8g Nikon 50mm lens is by far my favorite. The quality is much sharper, I shoot a lot of street photography and candid stuff so having a prime lens is a must. I’d recommend it for portraits as well. You can buy the 1.8d 50mm version only difference really is the auto focus motor built in to the lens. Which you will need to use auto focus unless you have a higher end DSLR that has a autofocus motor built in. Good luck

The AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens provided in this kit is a versatile 18-55mm zoom lens that’s great for a range of photo and video applications, from portraits to landscapes. A longer focal length lens would be more effective when shooting birds and other wildlife from a distance. For example, the AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300 f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens (#20068), which picks up where an 18–55mm kit lens leaves off and brings faraway subjects into close focus. For a single lens that covers all the above, consider lenses like the the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens (#2192) or the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens (#2196) For macro photography, look for Micro NIKKOR lenses such as the Nikon AF-S Micro 60mm f/f/2.8G ED Macro lens (#2177) or the Nikon AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Lens (#2200), which each have a maximum reproduction ratio of 1.0x.
