It does have a basic computer system but I really don't see a need for a surge protector. Typically on high power devices such as this (hair dryers, irons, skillets, heaters...) you want to plug them straight into the outlet for safety reasons. So no, do not use a surge protector for this unit, or any of the other devices I listed above. They could pull more power than the surge protector can deliver and damage your surge protector. Just unplug it when not in use.
