Yes, this unit does have a self-cleaning feature that will notify you when a clean cycle should be completed. However, we still recommend periodic cleaning and maintenance to keep it performing at its best. The steps for each type of cleaning, whether it's after brewing or cleaning accessories, are available to review on the Ninja website in the owner's guide.

I've not yet needed to clean mine but the entire process is pretty simple according to the manual. Also, if you only use filtered water when filling the reservoir it won't need descaling, also pretty simple, for a long time. Really, and speaking from my limited experience, it's pretty much idiot proof.
