There are much cheaper options if all he is wanting to do is GeForce and mobile gaming. The shield is more for streaming movies and TV shows than it is for gaming. Don't indulge him.

This does Dolby Vision and HDR no problem, has an AI upscale which isn't bad (makes lower quality better) and you can connect a ps4 controller. The apps work much faster than the LG OLED I have but they worked just fine. I mostly use for Plex and YouTube. If you can use the Dolby Vision or HDR then good upgrade for all but just for gaming, I would pass personally.
