The case itself does not have a plastic screen to cover the glass of the phone but the sides do come over the screen itself. I still have a screen cover on mine with the case.

It is not as protective as an Otterbein but does provide some reasonable protection.

While the case is closed it protects the screen but I would still suggest a screen protector, such as a Zagg or glass shield, while it is in use.

I had the same question and I'm told the case as an alternative to a screen protector. It's a great protection for the screen and a wonderful stand to prop up the tablet when watching streaming movies.
