“Does the camera on the phone come out past the case or does the case come out past the phone? I’d like to make sure that if the phone was set down on a table the case will touch the table and not the camera.”

Yeah, the back of the case that is over the camera sticks out very little past the camera so if you drop your phone, it won’t damage the camera will damage the case
