“Is this a rechargeable light or does it only work with the AC power cord?”

The LED light works with AC power cord only. However, the display features are retained if you lose power at your location (e.g. date, day, time. temperature). I experienced this great feature when the power went out for a couple hours. Fortunately, I didn't have to reset this clock.
