Truthfully, the Panasonic UB820 has exactly the same video processing capabilities as the UB9000 at less than half the price. Both have the very useful HDR Optimizer and both will play all Dolby and DTS audio modes present on DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K discs. The UB9000 does have a more robust physical build (it's similar to that of the now discontinued Oppo-203) and has some high-end audiophile capabilities (not those on video discs) that the UB820 doesn't have. As pure disc players both models are superb but, ultimately, if you don't need the additional audiophile abilities and are OK with a disc player that uses more plastic than metal in it's case, the UB820 may be worth a look.

Inexpensive players don't have any of this because those players are mostly about achieving the lowest possible price point, but at the expense of overall quality. None of that might matter to you, and that's fine. However, owners of premium high end 4K displays/projectors and audio systems, usually desire the best available source components for their high end home theater. Those consumers are the ones Panasonic is targeting with the DP-UB9000 player.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There lots of options to be sure when your looking at UHD blue-ray players, my reasons for myself were the nits enhancement of this player among other features to get the best performance from my JVC projector. Many reviews on well respected magazines and on line reviews all say just about the same thing; this is the best UHD player on the market now and is firm ware is upgrade able for the further whatever that may be Z51
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm going to be honest with you. The main difference is the metal cabinet whose only purpose is to shield the DVD player from outside RF interference, thus providing a cleaner playback. It's also got nice touches like gold plated electrical connections, which is why it's THX certified. If none of that appeals to you, then by all means, get the $500 Panasonic dvd player instead.
