is this compatible with gateway model dx4860? null

I have a gateway DX4860-UB20P, and it worked with mine.

Did a quick google search and since your Gateway DX4860 has a PCI Express slot (blue port near the middle of the motherboard towards the back) you should be fine. Moreover this card doesn't require the use of external power and is solely powered off of your motherboard, again you should be fine.

This card will work in any tower that has a pci-e(express) slot on the motherboard. With any windows OS. Not sure of other operating systems.

Ya its definitely compatible but you could easily go with a beefier card since your running an I5. Also since you are running Intel you definitely want to go with a Nvidia card

As long as it has a free pci express slot and an adequate power supply, yes. But my advice would be to get a name brand power supply from a reputable manufacturer (corsair, EVGA, and seasonic just to name a few) with at minimum 500 watts. That way, you'll have more power to upgrade to an even more powerful GPU like a 960 ,or even a 970
