No. If you turn it off for a second or two (not sure exactly how long, but it's a very short time period), the flashlight will reset itself and come back on at full brightness when you turn it back on. You can change from one mode to the next in fractions of a second too, by just quickly clicking the on/off button.

Yes. When I use mine I turn it on with one click and when I'm done it turns off with one click.
