“Just about all the air fryers I have seen use rubber-ish stoppers to hold the frying tray tightly in place, but the photos provided don't seem to indicate this.for the unit. Are they part of the design, or not?”

Yes, this unit has the rubber tray “feet” to assist it with staying where you place it inside the frying basket.
