I just measured the belt on my treadmill, and it's 18 inches across. I find that it's a comfortable width for me (5 foot, 8 inches tall woman). I got this after a pretty bad knee injury, since the doctor told me I needed to walk to help my knee heal, but I didn't have any place to safely do it. With the treadmill, I can walk slowly, in any kind of weather, since I'm indoors; hopefully I'll be able to improve my speed soon. I did build up to a 30-degree gradient pretty quickly, which helps a little since I can't up the speed just yet. I LOVE the bars I can hang on to, which give me a sense of control (NOT the "arms" parallel to the belt, but the bars across the treadmill just in front of the control panel). I had this professionally set up, since there was no way I could do it. I can highly recommend this treadmill, and I will continue to use it for the rest of my life, even after my knee is healed.
