“This says Mac/Windows... is this a cloud based subscription so quicken is no longer on the computer or still needs to be installed? Historically the mac version has sucked so I use quicken windows through paralells which is a pain.”

Quicken 2018 release is not cloud based. When you install, it simply detects whether your machine is running on Windows or MAC OS, then installs on your computer from there.
