Hi, unfortunately a Thunderbolt 3 port is required for this to work. Thunderbolt 3 ports have access to the PCIe lanes in a computer which is what will transmit the GPU data. A non-Thunderbolt 3 USB 3.1 Port does not connect to the PCIe lanes in a computer.
