Absolutely, camera has a variable timer. In addition, you can choose to take only pics or only videos or both!! For videos, you can even control the length of video recording. Batteries life will vary according to several factors, but figure 4-6 months for 4 alkaline or lithium batteries. Rechargeable requires 8 batteries, not sure how long they last.
