Do I need to buy a remote for every room null

You need to purchase a unit for every tv you want to have Roku streaming on.

One Roku works on one tv so if you have 3 TVs you would need 3 Rokus and they all come with their own remotes. Try one, you can always add more later (or return it, if it's not for you). Also, you can watch different channels, at the same time, on different tvs.
