• Hi Monkey! Yes there are TV Volume controls on the remote. The remote will have to be programmed to work with the TV. To accomplish this, simply go to Settings>Remotes & devices>Remotes>Set up remote for TV control. Yes, a smartphone is required to utilize the Free Roku App.

• No app is needed. During setup, you will have the opportunity to code the remote to control your TV's power & volume. And for me, the Roku has been able to detect the TV type automatically when directly connected.

• Nope you don’t need an app for that since it has it’s own USB .
