Hello Bilbo, this is a yes and no question, It depends on which TV you have as the device can be powered by the USB port on the TV if the TV outputs enough power through the USB port. I would try it first before plugging it into a wall outlet as it will tell you if it's not getting enough power.

Not the remote. The plug yes or into a smaller plug that goes into an a/c.
