You CAN but it muffles the sound. The Bose SoundLink has speakers on both the front and back and if laid out on a hard surface, there is no muffling, but when you put it in the case, it does muffle the back speaker. You would have to manually keep the lid open as well, since it wants to close on it's own - the zipper doesn't go all the way around. This case is ideal for protection when you're not listening; there are other products that would work better to protect the speaker while listening to it.

Yes it plays very well in the case. I use it as work and it keeps me sane
