Hi Carol! I'd like to provide this link (https://bit.ly/2RlNYWe) to the user manual to help answer your questions. Page 10 begins the section on how to operate the microwave. This model has an "Add 30 SEC" button that will automatically add 30 seconds to the cook time. However, the kitchen timer feature cannot be used at the same time as a cooking timer. ^Jecca
