I believe the 2.1 means it includes two small speakers and the woofer, and the 3.1 includes three small speakers and the woofer. I have a 65 inch, and I have the 2.1, but I also have a soundbar. That combination provides a very nice surround sound type experience.

Please try again later.this can be kinda confusing so a the 2 means how many channels each channel does there own part so this sound bar consists of one right channel and 1 left channel and each channel can have as many speakers as it wants to have a 3.1 means that a has a center channel also the center channel is for all the dialogue comes out but more clear in this sound bar it has 2 lest speakers and 2 right speakers
