“Our concern is that we have heard that you need 18" clearance from the top of the range to the bottom of the microwave. This model would only allow us to have about 16.5" over our electric range cooktop. Is there some legal requirement or hazard?”

Yes, the LP installing company required 18 inch clearance. We had to raise the cabinet in order to meet the length necessary to add the Range below the Microwave.
