Regarding your concern, yes, a filter is needed. The filter you need to use would be HAF-QIN/EXP, HAF-QINS/EXP. After about 6 months (and typically, about 300 gallons (1200 L) of water, the Filter indicator blinks red for several seconds when you open or close the door, reminding you that the filter needs to be replaced.
