These red tines identify the Storm Zone, the area where you can load large items such as pots and pans for more effective cleaning. When you select the Storm Wash option, an additional, powerful jet is activated and directed at items in the Storm Zone. More information about this and other features can be found in the user manual that comes with the dishwasher. On the '800' the red areas are indicative of the pot scrubbing function (not the red 'scrubber' jet directly beneath it when not running?). I believe the strip indicates the area covered by the scrubbing action. I wish they just made a box around the area, it would have been better explained.
