“If you are putting the refrigerator in an IKEA surround how far out should the sides be. The refrigerator is 36 1/2 with the handles, 34 without. Is 36" too far out for the doors to function freely?”

When the doors are fully opened the distance from the corner of the door to the back of the fridge is roughly 30”. The doors do not swing a full 180 degrees more like 120 so the handles should not have any issues. 36” should be a perfect distance allowing proper distance in the back for air flow.
