Hi Haywire, Although there’s a water pitcher, water is still dispensed through the door. The water pitcher is great for filling coffee makers as well as making flavored water. Hope this helps

We use the dispenser for ice and to fill cups and we use the pitcher to fill the coffee maker and sometimes to put on the table. We love this refrigerator.
