Hello, with the app you can control the temperature, ice maker, and auto fill pitcher. There are some other features like power management, Sabbath mode, and power cool. As far as the alerts, I have not yet had a power outage but smartthings usually says when things go offline. When the door is open longer than a minute an alert is sent for the door being open.
