No; however, to showcase this (or any) 4k HDTV to its best, you DO need a 4k program source. Xfinity customers, for example, should consider either an X1 or Flex device. If you are looking at the 4k FireTV sticks, considering that Amazon is selling them cheaply, they make the best option (I started recommending them last year - even to non-4k HDTV owners - for exactly that reason - and bought one myself). The other reason I recommended them is due to issues with freezing with the 1080p FireTV sticks; I got bit by that; turned out that upgrades were the culprit; the 4k stick was not affected.
