You can hook up a standard DVD player to a 4K TV but I would recommend getting a Blu-ray 4K player

Hi annieB! The AU8000 is compatible with external devices that support HDMI. This model does not feature composite (Yellow, White, Red) connections, which is the most common connection type for a DVD player. If your DVD player supports HDMI, you will be able to connect it to the TV. If your DVD player only supports a composite connection, you will need to upgrade to a BluRay device supporting HDMI.
