You can open the top oven door without opening the bottom oven door, but not the other way around. to open the bottom door, you must also open the top door.

Dual cooking. As if you had two small ovens. Or remove the divider for one large.

I have found, in my case, that if the two ovens have temperature differences of over 25° it doesn’t work.

Yes you can cook simultaneously in both ovens at different temperatures. You can open just the top oven, but to open the bottom oven both doors have to open as 1 large door. 
Remember you can remove the divider and have 1 very large oven, which is why the bottom door can't open individually.
