“When the oven starts a yellow glow comes from the bottom of the oven before the gas ignites and continues while the gas is on. Then it goes off when the heating is complete. Is this a normal operating condition? Seems to take a while to ignite too”

Its normal, Seems like all you need is 10-20 seconds but they must put a safety factor in the glow plug incase of flameouts and houses exploding.
