There is a chart. The longer the hose the thicker diameter it must be. A standard 4ft must be 1/2 inch to supply the 56K BTU of my NX58H5600SS requires. I opted for a 60 inch so I could pull it out more; to do that I had to tweak up the diameter to 5/8 which is rated @ 63K BTU(?) because the 60 inch 1/2 diameter would only be good for 52K BTU.
